Oak Park is well-known in the Chicago area as a thriving community of art, architecture, and multiculturalism. Just west of downtown Chicago and with easy access to the CTA Green and Blue Lines and the I-290 Expressway, residents enjoy the convenience and opportunity that comes with close proximity to an urban environment. Oak Park itself has cultivated a mini-Chicago atmosphere, with its own reputation as the home of great artists.

Oak Park’s hometown heroes include architect Frank Lloyd Wright and novelist Ernest Hemingway. Wright’s former home and studio is famously located in Oak Park, where he spent a large portion of his early career. Many of the homes he designed are also in Oak Park, attracting tourists and architecture enthusiasts from around the world. One of the community’s three historic districts is called the Frank Lloyd Wright Historic District. Hemingway’s birthplace is now a museum and his boyhood home is a historical landmark. Hemingway spent the formative years of his life in Oak Park, attended the local high school, and wrote for the school newspaper.

The village’s real-estate options are distinct, displaying Queen Anne, Craftsman, Prairie School, and Victorian-style architecture. Oak Park’s sizable downtown area is known for its vast choice of restaurants, shops, and a classically-styled movie theater. Known for being home to artists and creatives, it’s no surprise that the Oak Park Arts District has been established on Harrison Ave, with galleries and art programs for budding artists. Residents also have the advantage of multiple recreational spaces including public parks, outdoor pools, an ice rink, and the Oak Park Conservatory.

Transportation

The CTA Green and Blue lines both have stops in Oak Park. Residents also have easy access to I-290 (Eisenhower Expressway).
